In April I spent 2 weeks diving Skye as well as a few days diving on the way up there. It was great to get back into Scottish waters. I dive all year round, but it’s too cold to paint underwater in the winter. Just laying on the seabed not moving can make you pretty cold.

The sea was an average of 9 degrees C, so it wasnít too bad, except my drysuit leaked like a teabag!

Also, some of the paints seem to work better when the waterís a bit warmer.

There was loads of life, but the larger fish were still in deeper waters. As usual, I dived on my own as watching paint dry underwater is just as boring for my buddy as out of the water.

But youíre never alone underwater, and this trip was no exception. I was diving Meanish Reef off Skye and while I was painting the kelp, a blenny came to watch for about 10 minutes, even sitting on my painting. So I had to put him in the picture.

There were plenty of smaller fish and fry, crabs, and wee critters. I saw loads of seals at Meanish, but unfortunately none wanted to play underwater.

And I had fun watching and painting my bubbles.

I tested the most important piece of kit for a diver, my new MP3 player. Itís brilliant! So I laid on the seabed listening to my favourite tunes (Offspring, Scars on Broadway, Mindless Self Indulgence e.t.c.). It was great and I canít wait to get back to Scotland. Next stop, Scapa Flow.
